Brian Eno Urges Backing to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A campaign is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The project seeks to provide aid to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be fantastic if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn’t, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“It occupies a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Featured Artists
The song was recorded following a large-scale benefit event held in September. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the piece was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.
The impressive roster of musicians featured on Lullaby includes a selection of acclaimed names from the music world. All participated in the benefit event, which reportedly raised a significant sum for charitable causes.
Production and Release
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of music creators. The single showcases a mix of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The team running the campaign have emphasized that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a representative commented. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was noted for its widespread damage, with a vast majority of property described as levelled or seriously harmed.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million won't make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is above all raising awareness for this issue and demonstrating the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from the 19th of December.
