Toronto Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup With Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer contributed to the Astros claiming the World Series in the 2017 season.

Toronto's Blue Jays reached their maiden World Series since the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive game seven of the AL Championship Series.

Trailing three runs to one, the star outfielder delivered a three-run blast in the seventh inning, guiding the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. They will now face the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the forthcoming championship.

"I'm thrilled for our team, the city, our country," Springer stated, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an incredible feeling."

Springer has now connected for 23 total October home runs, ranking him third on the list after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"It's hard to imagine anyone else on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that spot other than him with his October magic," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle, after leading the early in the series, continue to be the only MLB franchise never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson stated "without a doubt that it's going to sting" following his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance throughout the year.

"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we ended up on the wrong side of this one," he added.

Toronto's team won the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Los Angeles in game one on Friday.
