Space-Based Photographs Depict Iran's Naval Forces and Atomic Locations Damaged by Joint US and Israeli Airstrikes.

Multiple American and Israeli airstrikes has reportedly sunk or crippled a minimum of eleven Iran's navy ships starting Saturday, recently obtained satellite images demonstrate, with missile bases and atomic facilities also being targeted.

Images of the southern Konarak naval military port and the Bandar Abbas port facility, which is located on the Strait of Hormuz and houses the main command of the Iranian navy, reveal smoke billowing from several ships on recent days.

Naval Forces Sustained Substantial Damage

Among the vessels destroyed was the Makran, Iran's most sizable ship which had served as a drone carrier. Aerial imagery showed thick smoke emanating from the vessel which had been stationed at the Bandar Abbas naval base.

Analytical reports suggest that at least a quintet of warships at Bandar Abbas were "hit or sunk". Pictures of the southern end of the port depict smoke rising from the IRINS Makran, while another pair of ships seem to be harmed, with one of them visibly ablaze.

Over at Konarak, photos display numerous stricken vessels, with expert review identifying strikes against six ships. Images taken on the start of the week also indicate that several buildings at the installation have been leveled.

"For a long time the Iranian regime has harassed global maritime traffic," a senior US military official said. "At present, there is not a single vessel from Iran underway in the Persian Gulf, Hormuz Strait or Gulf of Oman, and we will not stop."

A number of vessels reportedly destroyed may have been concealed in aerial photos by haze or plumes, or hit in open waters, and have not been conclusively proven. Other accounts indicated that a ship from Iran was sinking off the coast of Sri Lanka's territorial waters, prompting a search and rescue mission.

Rocket Sites and Atomic Locations Attacked

Neutralizing Tehran's launch facilities and the stopping nuclear weapons development were stated as other aims of the air campaign. Satellite images also depicted damage at the southern Khorgu and north-western Tabriz facilities, and at the Konarak air base, where missile storage facilities and bunkers were struck.

At the Choqa Balk-e drone base west of the city of Kermanshah, extensive damage was observed to storage buildings, underground facilities and unmanned aircraft systems.

Impact was also observed at a radar site at the Zahedan military airport in eastern parts of the country, close to the border with Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Of particular note, the most recent series of strikes have apparently focused on facilities at the Natanz complex – widely believed to be at the core of the country's atomic program. The UN's atomic energy body commented that the affected buildings were used for entry to the facility's underground enrichment facility and that "no nuclear fallout" was expected.

Broader Impact and Analysis

Military analysts suggested that the offensive appeared to have "largely neutralized" the Iranian navy's capability to carry out conventional attacks using its most significant vessels. However, it was emphasised that Tehran still has the capacity to launch asymmetric warfare at sea through the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, midget subs and its so-called "ghost fleet" of oil ships.

The overall extent of the destruction caused to Iran's defense infrastructure is still uncertain, with hostilities said to be ongoing. Photos also shows widespread damage to the headquarters of the Iran's Revolutionary Guards in the city of Tehran.

A significant number of civilian buildings also appear to have been damaged in the capital and throughout Iran since the hostilities started. Casualty figures from local officials state that hundreds of civilians may have been fatally injured in the attacks.

With the conflict ongoing, review of satellite imagery will continue to assess the evolving battlefield picture.
