Russian President Vladimir Putin Assures Uninterrupted Oil Shipments to the Indian Nation in Rebuff of Washington Pressure

During a unambiguous signal to Western nations, President Vladimir Putin informed PM Narendra Modi that Russia remains committed to guarantee “unbroken” shipments of crude oil to India. These remarks came when Putin and Modi met in the Indian capital and affirmed their partnership were “resistant to foreign coercion.”

A Signal Directed at the Western Countries

This affirmation, made on Friday, was widely seen to be targeted at the United States and its allies, that have sought to compel New Delhi into reducing its longstanding relations with Moscow. The context comes after previous US actions, notably the imposition of trade penalties against Indian goods over its buying of discounted Russian crude.

“Our nation is a trustworthy exporter of oil and gas and everything necessary for the growth of India’s industry,” he said. “We are ready to keep ensuring the consistent flow of energy for the fast-expanding Indian economy.”

The Indian leader, while not referencing crude explicitly, reinforced the sentiment by saying that “a stable energy base has been a robust and vital foundation of the Indo-Russian alliance.”

Defying Washington's Stance

Before the talks, during a TV appearance, Putin had criticized American pressure on India's energy purchases. The president questioned, “If the US has the right to buy our nuclear fuel, then why can't India claim the equivalent access?”

Putin's arrival represented his first journey to India following the start of the conflict in Ukraine, and the two nations undertook a clear effort to display that the personal rapport between the men was undisturbed.

A Warm Greeting

Employing an rare step, Prime Minister Modi welcomed directly Putin upon his arrival. The two exchanged a hearty embrace akin to old friends before having a closed-door supper on Thursday evening.

He later described India's partnership with Russia as “a guiding star” and said it was “built on shared respect and deep trust.”

Reaffirming Defence and Economic Ties

The bilateral summit yielded a number of important deals in the fields of military and economic cooperation. One significant result was the completion of an joint economic plan that runs to 2030, which sets a goal to increase twofold commerce to one hundred billion dollars annually by the target year.

The leaders also vowed to restructure their military partnership. Although Russia is still India's primary exporter of defence equipment, this role has diminished over the past decade as India aims to broaden its sources.

The official release highlighted cooperation in the collaborative manufacturing of sophisticated military systems, even if direct reference of purchases such as the Su-57 fighter jet were omitted.

In conclusion, Moscow and Delhi reiterated that amid the “ongoing challenging, strained, and volatile geopolitical situation, Russian-Indian ties remain strong to outside forces.”
