Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
