Certain factions on the political spectrum who offer only grievance: Labour is getting on with the job of economic renewal.

At the budget last week, we made the right choices for Britain, lowering power bills with £150 off bills, safeguarding the health service and combating the problem of impoverished children by scrapping the two-child restriction. Measures were also taken that the funds collected through taxes was done justly, with all paying their share but those with the broadest shoulders contributing their fair share.

Due to the decisions enacted, the budget established a firmer financial footing, curbing inflationary pressures and state borrowing costs. This is essential for securing our public services, when £1 in every £10 spent by government goes on loan repayments.

Building on Economic Foundations

The announcement strengthens the action we have already taken to boost financial conditions: allocating £120 billion in additional funding in such things as roads, rail and energy; implementing major regulatory changes in a generation to support developers, not obstructionists; promoting the development of Heathrow and Gatwick; and establishing trading partnerships with the EU, India and the US.

Collectively, these have allowed us to exceed our growth forecasts.

Renewing Our Nation

As I outlined at the party conference, the government’s purpose is precisely the renewal of our economy, our communities and our state. Through this approach, we will stop degradation and reestablish confidence in our country.

We will take on those on the both sides who only offer complaints and whose approach would lead to continued weakening. Let me be clear, turning on the borrowing taps or returning us to austerity – that is the approach of deterioration and I will not accept it.

A Thorough Development Strategy

In a speech on Monday, I will place the budget in context within the broader commercial rejuvenation on which the government will be judged at the end of this parliament.

To accomplish the countrywide revitalization we seek, we must do more to stimulate expansion, to combat unemployment among young people and to pursue closer international cooperation with our trading partners.

Bureaucracy Reduction Effort

Our development strategy will include a refreshed emphasis on sweeping away unnecessary regulation. Frequently it was those on the left who have favored regulation, but there is nothing forward-thinking in regulations which merely act to raise the cost of living for the poorest, to slow down economic growth unnecessarily, or stop a progressive administration achieving its aims.

This is the reason I am asking the business secretary to tackle the type of excessive additions and needless paperwork that increase expenses and impede our industrial strategy.

Benefits System Overhaul

Economic renewal also demands that we must continue to overhaul social security. We assumed control of a dysfunctional apparatus that caused youngsters to lack basic nutrition and which discarded youth as too sick to work.

We cannot tolerate either part of that ineffective right-wing framework. This explains we will do more to support adolescents in reaching their abilities.

For when people are neglected in your early career, if you are not given the support you need to address psychological challenges, or if you are simply written off because you are experiencing cognitive variations or handicaps, then it can trap you in a cycle of worklessness and dependency for decades.

This imposes financial burdens, is bad for our productivity, but far more significantly, it takes away opportunity and disregards ability. Any Labour government worthy of the name must not disregard this.

Hence the explanation we have tasked a previous healthcare official to make implementable proposals to help young people with wellbeing challenges secure jobs, training or education – ensuring they are supported to succeed instead of excluded.

International Trade Enhancement

Lastly, we need additional measures to help our businesses engage in worldwide exchange. No plausible financial outlook for Britain that does not position us as an open, trading economy.

We must confront the reality that the mishandled separation arrangement substantially damaged our finances. You do not need to have a PhD in economics to know that establishing superfluous business impediments with your largest commercial ally will hinder development and boost prices.

So one element of our economic renewal will be continuing to move towards a stronger commercial partnership with the EU. If we can get cheaper food, enhance expansion and generate employment by having a closer relationship with the EU, we should.

A Meaningful Approach for Major Issues

An economic package built on just selections for Britain must be reinforced with commitment to achieve the economic renewal that the country needs.

Through implementing a substantial, courageous extended strategy, not a set of temporary solutions, we will rejuvenate the country. We need to transform once more a meaningful society, with a serious government, able collectively to undertake challenging tasks to regain control of our future.

Via possessing an unambiguous objective to rejuvenate our finances, our localities and our nation, we will implement the transformation we pledged – and then be evaluated based on it during the upcoming vote.
